I have had the pleasure of teaching Health at El Paso High for the past 31 years. Prior to moving to El Paso from Ohio, I earned a bachelors degree in Health Education from Ohio University and a masters degree in Athletic Training from Western Michigan University. In addition to being a Health teacher, I am also an assistant swimming coach. I reside in Las Cruces, New Mexico and weather permitting, love to go to the lake to kayak.
Welcome to Health 1
Health is a required class for graduation in EPISD. At any time a student is struggling to understand the content or complete an assignment, please feel free to see me as soon as possible in room 406 or contact me at [email protected]. My conference period is on "B" days from 12:40-2:10. Please schedule a conference a day in advance.
To be successful in the Health class, you will need to participate in the following ways;
1. Be prepared! Bring your charged laptop, a notebook/folder, and pen or pencil to class every day.
2. Be in attendance and on time! The attendance and tardy policies are strictly enforced. You are responsible for taking care of your make-up work. If your absence is excused, you have 3 days to take care of your make-up work. It is up to YOU to ask for the missed work.
3. Be respectful of everyone and their possessions. Treat everyone as you would like to be treated. Profanity is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The use of profanity may result in a citation issued by the school police officer.
4. Study for quizzes and do your own work. Cheating occurs when you are not prepared. If you are caught cheating, including helping others, you will receive a "0"for the assignment and a U in conduct. Help others by expecting them to do their own work.
5. Follow the school dress code in the student handbook. Offenders will be sent to an assistant principal.
6. Complete all assignments. Notebooks will be graded each nine weeks. You may also use your notebook on the final exam. Save all of your work.
7. Bring water, but no sodas or food to class. You may bring a bottle of water to class.
8. Cell phones. Leave your cell phone turned off and in your backpack or purse unless you are given permission to listen to music. I will do the same with mine. All students are provided a laptop to complete assignments. If you are not sure, please ask. Cell phones that are picked up will be turned into the Business Office.
9. Earn a 90+ and be exempt from the final exam! If you have a 90+ average and no more than 3 absences, you will be exempt from the final exam.
10. Grading All grades will be based on a 100 point scale and weighted equally.
11. Please be aware if you tell me about physical, emotional, sexual abuse or bullying, I am required to report it to the appropriate authorities.
