Health 1
The High School EPISD health education curriculum is an eighteen-week course, which uses the State-approved Glenco/McGraw-Hill's health book. The curriculum reinforces a strong and consistent abstinence message, while combining comprehensive and accurate health information with a real-life application of health skills. Essentially, by laying the foundation for building lifelong health skills, the curriculum helps students make positive choices.
Classroom Management
1. Be prepared! Please bring your text book, a notebook and a pen or pencil to class every day.
2. Be in attendance and on time! The attendance and tardy policies are strictly enforced. Students are responsible for asking for make-up work and have 3 days after their absence to take care of missed work. Please see the tardy policy in the student planner.
3. Be respectful of everyone and their possessions! Treat everyone as you would like to be treated. The use of profanity is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The use of profanity may result in a citation issued by the school police officer. Putdowns and bullying will not be tolerated.
4. Cheating occurs when students are not prepared. If a student is caught cheating (including helping others), they will receive a "0" for the assignment and a "U" in conduct. Help others by expecting them to do their own work.
5. Please follow the school dress code. Offenders will be sent to an assistant principal for a Dress Code Violator's t-shirt or sweatpants.
6. Students who earn a 90% average for the semester and no more than 3 absences to be exempt from the final exam.
7. Notebooks will be graded each 9 weeks. Students may use their notebooks on the final exam. Save all work!
8. Please do not bring food or sodas to class. Students may bring a bottle of water.
9. Cell phones and electronic games are not permitted in class. Students should leave their cell phone turned off and in their backpack or purse. Cell phones that are picked up will be turned in to the business office. A parent may pick up the cell phone at a cost of $15.00.
10. Please be aware that if a student reports physical, emotional or sexual abuse, including bullying, I am required by law to report it to the appropriate authorities. If a student is in need of help, please feel free to ask for help.
Grading Policy
1. Students are expected to turn in assignments complete and on time. Assignments that are turned in late will have 11 points deducted. Students who have an excused absence are not considered late and have 3 days after the absence to hand in the work for full credit.
2. All assignments are based on a 100 point scale and given equal weight. Notebooks will count as 2 grades given the extent of the assignments turned in.
